The nomenclature of invariant phase equilibria (φ0) in polynary systems is critically discussed. As a result, three ideas are suggested (n = the number of components of a system): the invariantformation equilibrium, whereby a new phase is generated upon interacting ofn other phases involved; the invariantdecomposition equilibrium, whereby one of the (n+1) phases decomposes inton other phases and disappears; and the invarianttransition equilibrium, whereby all (n+1) phases appear at temperatures above, as well as below, the equilibrium temperature, but in different combinations. All invariant equilibria are symbolized by: $$j \to \phi _0 \to \left( {n + 1 - j} \right)$$ with 1 |
