The aim of this chapter is to provide a theoretical and conceptual understanding of poverty and interpersonal violence and to offer insights into strategies that be used in working with different groups of people facing these issues. The chapter discusses the definitions and classifications of interpersonal violence. It moves on to explain the relationship between poverty and interpersonal violence and to examine the same based on existing theoretical approaches. The impact of these factors on persons across the lifespan is outlined followed by a section describing specific interventions that have been implemented with various groups faced with challenges due to poverty and interpersonal violence. Recommendations for future work regarding these issues are given. |
