Popis: | The complex (Ni(D-Pyala)/sub 2/).2H/sub 2/O was prepared by reaction of NiCO/sub 3/ with D-/sup +/H/sub 3/NCH(CH/sub 2/C/sub 5/H/sub 4/N)CO/sub 2//sup -/, D-PyalaH, the tridentate analogue of histidine. It was established from three-dimensional x-ray diffraction data that of the three possible isomeric forms the configuration of the complex in the crystalline state is that in which the amino nitrogen atoms are mutually trans. The crystals were monoclinic, of space group P2/sub 1/, with a = 14.942 (4) A, b = 12.091 (2) A, c = 10.090 (2) A, ..beta.. = 90.3 (3)/sup 0/, V = 1815.58 A/sup 3/, d/calcd/ = 1.556 g/cm/sup 3/, Z = 4, ..mu.. = 11.1 cm /sup -1/ for Mo, K..cap alpha.., and R = 0.084. The visible spectrum of the complex suggests that the ligands remain tridentate in aqueous solution, and the circular dichroism spectrum is consistent with the complex having the same configuration as in the solid state. The structural and spectral results are discussed in the context of related complexes. 5 figures, 4 tables. |
