This essay analyses the relationship between the processes of discourse reformulation and the conclusion and recapitulation functions through the specific analysis of the discourse markers en fin and total in oral discourse. The author states that the afore-mentioned functions could be included in the operations of reformulation as a process of discourse reinterpretation. It is also argued that the basic function that characterises these discourse markers is the process of recapitulation, but in relation to the discursive constructions in which they appear and, in some specific cases, to the presence of the particle que combined with total and also, to a lesser extent, with en fin, these elements may carry out conclusion functions established from inferential processes. |
