Popis:	The article examines the mechanisms of protection of exclusive rights to genetically modified organisms as objects of intellectual property. The correlation of the regimes of protection of breeding achievements and patenting of inventions in different countries of the world is considered. The risks associated with the expanding practice of patenting the modification of plant, animal and human genes are analyzed.
