Popis: | This report describes five patients who developed arthritis at the knee joint due to Candida species. All of these patients with localized Candida arthritis have a history of having received intra-articular injections of steroids for more than four years. The clinical presentation and course of them differs from that of those who are affected with joint infection resulting from hematogenous dissemination of Candida. Culture of the homogenized synovium excised at operation was found to be positive in all of these cases.Surgical excision of the joint with successful arthrodesis was performed in four patients. The remainder undergone a right total knee arthroplasty has been managed to control the infection without removal of the prosthesis, and followed up under meticulous attention. |
