“Finding Sonnets about Sand: Using Local Voices in Literature Classrooms” focuses on the importance of presenting beginning literature students with texts that have some relevance to their lives. With eight years experience of teaching in the Middle East, the author argues that in lower-level literature classes, students should have a chance to see their lifeways and values represented in addition to foreign cultures. The article concludes with a short bibliography of texts which are useful in teaching Introduction to Literature classes. |
