Impact of Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloy in dynamic performance of redundant SCARA robot

Popis: In the recent years, shape memory alloys (SMA) are comprehensively used in robotic engineering applications. The material selection for robotic manipulator design plays a vital role for its dynamic performance. In this study Cu-Al-Ni SMA is selected as the alternate material for a redundant SCARA Robot design by the addition of Titanium (Ti). The Cu-Al-Ni with and without titanium addition is assigned as a custom material to the parts of redundant SCARA robot developed by 3D CAD modelling software Solid Works and simulated in MATLAB/SimMechanics platform. The dynamic parameter torque was observed from the multi-body system blocks of the robot model utilizing simulation capability in a SimMechanics second generation environment. The simulation results of the dynamic performance based on the SMAs used and the suitability of SMAs for the redundant SCARA robot design is presented in this work.
