This chapter highlights how partnerships between police and community supervision officers have developed to facilitate information sharing, interagency problem-solving, special enforcement, as well as support for offender reintegration. In 2007, the International Association of Chiefs of Police published a summit report on offender reentry and police assistance. The current chapter will update these findings and provide commentary on how these suggested improvements have fared during the past 12–13 years. An examination of whether these functions have been effective, identifying challenges, and highlighting successes is provided. In addition, the specific roles that police play in these partnerships are discussed, with additional emphasis on informal forms of offender rapport-building, cultivation of community relations, and even mentoring, that are not often acknowledged by the public when considering police contributions to these partnerships. |
