Popis: A study was made of the histological and histochemical changes occuring in the non infarcted part of the myocardium in experimentally reproduced myocardial infarcts of rats within the time of one hour up to six days. In the non infarcted part of the cardiac muscle the glycogen content increased within the first ten hours, rapidly decreased then, and reached the level of the control heart after five to six days. Whereas the glycogen decreased the activity of coenzyme linked dehydrogenase increased particularly of the α-glycerophosphate-dehydrogenase, the lactate dehydrogenase and the glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase, that retained after the decrease of glycogen lower than normal. The pH-value in the non-infarcted myocardium was, at all times, lower than that of the control heart. The changes of activities of the α-glycerophosphate-dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphatedehydrogenase and the lactatedehydrogenase were interpreted as signs of functional adaption. The increased activity of the glucose-6-phosphatedehydrogenase is considered to point out an increased hexose monophosphate shunt leading to an increased metabolism of proteins and to a protective adaptation in sense of a starting compensatory hypertrophia.
