Popis: Different from the current cold-water Brazilian Standard NBR 5626 (ABNT, 1998), which indicates the use of empirical method, the draft standard, that is being prepared, recommends the use of probabilistic method, which allows the use of parameters such as flow and duration of use of each device, making the calculation more precise. Therefore, comparing the difference between these methods becomes important as well as comparing them with actual measurements of flow rates and consumption profiles. In this way, the design flow was compared among the two methods proposed in the Brazilian standards, in addition to the methods proposed by the European standard (EN 806-3, 2006) and the draft Portuguese standard replacing the Regulatory Decree no. 23/95, of a single-family residence. In addition, from the instantaneous flows measured in loco in a single-family residence, the flow distribution was verified in the sections of the cold-water system. It was possible to observe that the project flows are usually close to the appliances´ flows and that the probabilistic method presented flow rates close to the ones measured
