Popis: 1. An analytical expression has been derived describing the densification kinetics of sandwich-type composite materials in hot pressing. 2. It has been established that the rate at which rigid fibers are forced into a ductile matrix during hot pressing is controlled by the rate of steady-state creep of the matrix. 3. It is shown that the analytical relationship derived gives satisfactory agreement with experiment in the initial stages of densification. The difference between theoretical and experimental curves in the final stages of the process is linked with the way in which the matrix material is squeezed out into the spaces between the fibers.
