Popis: This chapter takes the investigation into an increasingly dynamic phase of the Church after the accession of a new patriarch. The discussion explores the modernization of the Church as an institution, mainly through its streamlined media operation, the new arguments on identity and the significance of celebrating the Church’s autocephalous and the Patriarchate status. The analysis dwells on the institutional nature of the Church, drawing on the concepts of “institutional self-narrative” and “institutional memory” which contribute to institutional identity. The juxtaposition of the Church’s identity with national identity moves the discussion towards the relationship between the Church and the State in a context where opinion polls point to a decline in the popularity of the Church in comparison with other institutions.
