Inorganic pyrophosphate is an inhibitor for formation of crystals with stone forming salts (Fleisch, 1978).. Pyrophosphate excretion is influenced by the kidney (Russel et al., 1976). We have shown that recurrent renal stone formers often have tubular dysfunctions, e.g. acidification defects. These patients often have a complicated stone diesease (Backman et al., 1980). We therefore found it interesting to study pyrophosphate excretion in stone formers with special attention to tubular dysfunction demonstrated as impaired renal acidification. |
