Popis: | Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with an estimated 537 million people having diabetes worldwide with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus making up about 90% of the cases. It is the fastest growing non communicable disease in the world. Its pathophysiology is linked to multiple genetic and environmental causes. Long term uncontrolled diabetes can cause many micro and macro vascular complications. Microvascular complications like neuropathy, retinopathy and nephropathy are linked more closely to control of blood sugar levels. ABO blood groups are polymorphic, inherited, antigenic substances found on the surface of red blood cells in addition to other tissues. Specic ABO blood groups are found to have predisposition for some specic diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcer and some vascular diseases. In this study we aim to study the correlation between the incidence and various microvascular complications of diabetes with specic ABO blood groups. |
