Popis: | Introduction: There is currently a paucity of empirical research identifying evidence-based, practical strategies that may promote workforce participation in individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder with a background of criminal justice system involvement. Given this, exploration of employment-related support strategies developed for other disorders (e.g., neurodevelopmental disorders, mental/psychiatric and brain injury) that are analogous to or comorbid with FASD may provide an appropriate starting point for understanding how to assist individuals with FASD to find employment. Here, we describe a protocol for a scoping review focusing on mapping the extent of existing resources that have been developed and empirically validated as well as those that are available in the grey literature. In particular, we focus on (1) resources that have been developed for policing and criminal justice system staff to help them support individuals with FASD as well as those with analogous and/or comorbid disorders as they prepare for employment and (2) resources that have been developed for employment services and potential employers to support justice-involved individuals with FASD as well as those with analogous and/or comorbid disorders. This scoping review protocol follows an updated methodological framework by Levac, Colquhorn and O’Brien (2010). The scoping review itself will be conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses extension (PRISMA) for Scoping Reviews Guidelines. The search strategy will be applied to online psychology databases, Google Scholar and grey literature. Selection of relevant studies will follow a two-step approach. First, titles and abstracts of all search results will be screened by two authors. Second, a full-text screening will be conducted. Data that is extracted from the selected studies will be summarized (a) quantitatively, by means of frequency counts for concepts, populations and outcomes, and (c) qualitatively, using thematic analysis. All data will be collected from published studies and public websites. Results of this evaluation will be disseminated to a targeted audience, employing a tailored approach. This review will also inform the development of appropriate, evidence-based employment support strategies for individuals with FASD. |
