Popis: The crude preheating in refineries, performed in a crude preheat train (CPT), is a very energy consuming operation. The fouling formed in the heat exchangers of the CPT affects the preheating of the crude, thus not only requires additional energy but also involves cleaning of the fouling. Hence, it becomes essential to schedule the CPT in a way to minimize the involved energy and cleaning costs. Such a model, formed with a real dataset, is solved here by three mixed-binary evolutionary algorithms. Multi-objective optimization is also performed to investigate the conflicting nature of the energy and cleaning costs.
