Popis: The main objective of this work is to study the degradation of the blue methyl dye (BM) in an aqueous solution by the (α2P2W12Mo5O61Fe)7−/K2S2O8 process. The blue methyl is an acid dye which is very toxic to the environment; it is mainly used in the dyeing industry. (α2P2W12Mo5O61Fe)7− is a Dawson-type Fe (III)-substituted heteropolyanion. The effects of the various experimental parameters of the dye degradation reaction were investigated. The optimum conditions had been determined, and it was found that the efficiency of the degradation obtained after 30 min of the reaction was about 100% under the following operating conditions: the initial pH = 6; [K2S2O8]0 = 0.01 mM; catalyst mass = 1 g; for a concentration of dye [BM]0 = 10 mg/L. The stability, the recycling and the reuse of the catalyst and their performance were also confirmed, and the decolorization mechanism of the BM by the PS-based process was proposed. The comparison of % Removal of the BM by P2W12Mo5Fe/S2O82− and P2W12Mo5Fe/H2O2 was studied. The effect of other Dawson-mixed heteropolyanions such as (α2P2W12Mo5O61X)n−(X = Cu2+, Zn2+, Fe3+, Ni2+) on the dye oxidation at a room temperature was evaluated. Compared with other heteropolyanions, the highest discoloration efficiency (100%) is obtained using Wells–Dawson-type heteropolyanion iron-substituted (α2P2W12Mo5O61Fe)7− as a catalyst.
