As most of the earth surface is covered with ocean water. These oceans contain many resources. So Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSN) is the promising field that attaches the ocean's resources and the rest of the world. UWSN combines wireless technology and micromechanical sensor technology. Smart sensors are used for this, having good communication capacity to collect the information. This sensed data is employed in favor of human being and many application areas like offshore oil and gas extraction, oil spills, military surveillance and mine detection, pollution monitoring. Sensor nodes collect data, but to use this collected information efficiently, we have to know these sensor nodes' location. Process of determining the location of the sensor node is called localization. In this paper first, we will present an introduction to UWSN. After this, the architecture of UWSN will be discussed. This survey paper aims to discuss various localization schemes that are mainly categorized into centralized and distributed. Finally, we will conclude our paper with various challenges in the underwater wireless sensor network node localization. |
