Popis:	5-(2,4,6-Triphenyl-N-pyridinio)tropolonates, troponoid betaine dyes, were prepared. These dyes were negatively solvatochromic and more blue-shifted than ET 30 in all of the solvents. The dihedral angle between the pyridinium and the tropolonate rings was larger than that of ET 30.
