Popis: | The concept “crisis” originates from psychodynamic theory and describes a psychologic process but is often used as a psychiatric diagnosis, especially at community mental health centers. This wide applicability may result in confusion and the “underdiagnosing” of psychiatric disorders. The aim of this paper is to elucidate the concept of “crisis reactions” in relation to the descriptive classification of the DSM-III-R. Two groups of patients, matched for age and sex, were selected for the study, one with DSM-III “adjustment disorders” and the other with “V-codes” - that is, conditions not attributable to a known mental disorder. The reliability of the diagnostic evalutions made by the members of the psychiatric team was studied at new diagnostic evaluations by two senior psychiatrists.
