Semi-aperiodic fiber Bragg gratings for hydroxyl emission line suppression

Popis: Atmospheric emission limits observation with ground-based telescopes in the NIR. Those emission lines are very narrow in bandwidth and thus enable for filtering them with fiber Bragg gratings to utilize the light passing in-between. We present a scheme for the compact inscription of multiple notch filters with a semi-aperiodic fiber Bragg grating. Herein, we utilize the interference of neighboring grating sections of a phase mask which then produces the desired resonances inside a fiber. Our current design addresses up to ten wavelengths which are matched with an accuracy better than 175pm.
