Practical implementation of CIGRE 36.05/CIRED 2 Joint WG CC02 for assessment of harmonic emission level of AC arc furnaces connected to the Tamil Nadu distribution network

Popis: The impact of harmonic emission by non-linear loads on supply system quality is well known. Utilities strive to ensure that the voltage harmonic planning levels in the power system are maintained when all non-linear loads are working simultaneously by limiting appropriately the harmonic currents injected. With large consumers, having a particular disturbing load the harmonic emission level is evaluated at the PCC. The problem associated with the assessment of emission level and the various methods currently available under such situation have been reviewed by CIGRE 36.05/CIRED 2 Joint WG CC02. This paper presents the working procedure of one such method to determine the emission level of arc furnaces for implementation in Microsoft EXCEL to process the data recorded by a power quality monitor. Also given are the results of the above implementation for three numbers of small AC arc furnaces and one induction furnace that are connected to the distribution network of TNEB.
