Popis: Airsacculitis in turkey poults associated with a Mycoplasma other than M. gallisepticuzm was first described by Adler et al. (1). Later reports by Bigland (2) and Kumar et al. (4) indicated the high incidence of this condition in turkey flocks. Adler (1) designated his isolate the N strain, and Kleckner (3) later classified it as the H serotype. Yamamoto et al. (7) suggested the designation Mycoplasma meleagridis, which is used in this text. Adler et al. (1) reported that this Mycoplasma is egg-transmitted, and Yamamoto and Bigland (6) pointed to the possibility of venereal transmission. At the time this investigation was started, little information was available on possible routes of transmission of M. meleagridis, although Yamamoto et al. (8) recently gave a detailed study of egg and semen transmission of this infection. This study was designed to investigate the means of transmission of M. meleagridis, with special emphasis on semen and egg transmission. Some observations were made on an apparent route of transmission other than via semen and egg.
