Backwater Calculation Due to Arc Bridges with Skewed Crossing

Popis: This paper proposes a simple mathematical formula for estimating bridge backwater for a skewed multiple opening arch bridge. The impacts of different parameters that affect the backwater were studied by conducting a series of parametric studies. The results of the parametric study were incorporated into the proposed method in order to enhance the accuracy of backwater computation. The proposed method was then validated by comparing its results with experimental data and the results of the most commonly used energy method. The comparisons showed that the results of the proposed method have good correlations with both experimental data and the energy method results. In addition, it was concluded that the proposed method can be very helpful to hydraulic engineers due to its simplicity.
