Popis: The word deviance originated from the study of statistics. As sociologists focused their studies on different areas of social life, they found there was a tendency for variables to cluster in similar patterns. In the beginning of the twenty-first century, homeless assistance shifted back from the responsibility of the federal government to local communities, perhaps describing a lack of public support for federal interventions in social welfare. As poverty and homelessness grew “the shift from private to public-based assistance exceeded the resources of private organizations”. By understanding the context of homelessness and how we define it, solve it and attempt to control it, we see a variety of theories operating depending on the standpoint of the one who is making a claim. Labeling theories and Social Construction theories gained ground during the 1960s. These theories allowed a deeper understanding of social problems from the viewpoint of both the person who was being labeled and the societal response to that label.
