Popis: The results of experimental investigations to evaluate the reactivity of the hydroxyl groups and the structure of the products in chemical conversions of the polysaccharide chain using high-resolution NMR spectroscopy in its different variants (1H and 13C NMR in solution and 13C NMR in the solid phase) are reviewed. Special attention is paid to the problems of obtaining quantitative information on the distribution of the substituents in the elementary unit and developing the methodological approaches for identification of the NMR spectra of polysaccharide ethers and esters based on model compounds, low molecular mass analogues and blocking the free hydroxyl groups by deuterized reagents. Some ideas are put forward on the prospects for evaluating the changes in structure during esterification of polysaccharides by the 13C NMR method in the solid phase.
