Popis: Music has properties that place it among the greatest phenomena in human experience. This, to be sure, may not be a universally applicable statement. There are those for whom music remains a mere accoustical sensation devoid of meaning. Such a limitation, however, does not affect the phenomenon when and where it is in force. That which marks the line between those affected by it and those utterly indifferent to it is probably buried deep in the innate make-up of the individual. The large majority of those for whom music is more than an auditory perception experience a tremendous diversity and range of quality (they sense a set of values) emanating from different musical organisms. Their reactions to each such form may not be unanimous or even similar, since individual listeners differ in tradition and outlook; but they are all aware of the range between inconsequential sound-play and a composition which achieves cohesion of high degree. And they recognize, finally, that there is music whose impact compels unanimous submission.
