Popis: Epidermal cells of the encapsulated larval K. isopodicola, like those of the adult parasitic male, contain closely packed granular phagosomes and vesicular lysosomes. Evidently, the larval epidermis already functions as a digestive epithelium. Nutrients are possibly present in the matrix material of the cocoon. Certain parenchymal glands are identical with those of parasitic males and females; others might be cystogenous glands or may represent glands found only in the male. The sex ratio may be skewed so that most larvae are destined to be males. There are two ocelli, devoid of pigment granules. In the developing eye, dense granules in the single cup cell possess crystalline inclusions. The crystals form an array of reflective plates, which functions as a non-metallic mirror. The functional principles of the mirror, which is a multilayer quarter-wavelength interference reflector, are briefly discussed. There are three photoceptor cells in each eye, possessing rhabdomeric photosensitive elements....
