Popis: Multiple myeloma is a relatively rare malignancy, resulting from the neoplastic transformation of a B lymphocyte clone with terminal differentiation into plasma cells. With a median age at presentation of 64–69 years, it is uncommon before the age of 45. The incidence of multiple myeloma is significantly higher in men than women and in blacks than in whites [1,2]. While its etiology is not known, some epidemiological studies have shown an increased rate of myeloma in persons with chronic inflammatory conditions including allergic disorders, rheumatoid arthritis and chronic bronchitis [2,3]. These studies suggest a relationship between chronic antigenic stimulation, and the development of myeloma.
