Popis:	Asthma is a bronchial disorder where many factors may effect the onset, severity and course of the disorder. The authors present a critical review of the literature relevant to the physiology of childhood asthma and psychological aspects of its development and maintenance. The limitations of psychoanalytic theory and learning theory as applied to asthma are discussed. The second part of this paper focuses on recent psychological therapy and will appear in a subsequent issue of the Australian Occupational Therapy Journal.
