Popis:	Electron microscopical studies of diatoms growing on the skin of cetaceans and assigned to the genus Cocconeis have been carried out with material from both hemispheres. The results of this study have led to establishment of two new genera, Bennettella and Epipellis. Bennettella includes the former Cocconeis ceticola Nelson, C. wheeleri Hart, and C. ceticola f. constricta Nemoto. Epipellis, a monotypic genus, is established to accommodate the invalid C. orcii Kliashtorin.
