Popis: | An investigation is reported in which the dimensions of cellulose crystallites in cotton lint were measured by using X-ray techniques. It was found that, when the relative humidity was increased from 20 to 90%, the apparent crystallite size in the (0,0,1) direction grew larger. This result shows that there are high inter-molecular stresses in the fibre that are dissipated as the water content rises. Changes in the crystallinity index are also discussed. |
