Popis: There is an increasing need to concentrate on healthy production of silkworm eggs in order to cater to the worldwide demand for silk. Accurately predicting the hatch rate helps in this direction. To fulfil this requirement, we have proposed a novel image processing algorithm based on blob analysis that determines the hatch rate. The algorithm depends on detecting unhealthy eggs that are yellow in colour and counting them. This is achieved by extraction of only those pixel values pertaining to yellow colour and their subsequent enumeration. The proposed method gives satisfactorily accurate results. Knowing the hatch rate at an early stage will help in predicting the yield rate, which is a measure of the total silk produced.
