Popis: | The purpose of this study is to model hydrocarbon resources potential mapping using geographic information systems (GIS). A case study in Ahvaz/Khuzestan Province, southwest Iran, is proposed to assess the feasibility of this modeling technique. Several statistical methods can be used to effectively predict potential areas for petroleum reserve occurrences. In this research, evidential belief functions approach was used to predict the potential distribution of the petroleum reserves in the study area. The accuracy of the petroleum potential map was evaluated by success rate and prediction rate efficiency curves. The results were validated using area under curve (AUC) analysis. The AUC of training and testing subsets showed 73.84 and 67.32 %, respectively. The final favorability map shows different zones of petroleum prospective potential, viz., high favorable (27.09 %), moderate favorable (37.39 %), and low favorable (35.52 %). The validation of results showed that there is a relatively good adaption between the optimum potential map and petroleum fields. The present study was carried out at a regional scale, so the results can be used to guide exploration work at early stages. |
