Medical diagnostic methods in which ultrasonic waves are utilized have developed a new field in medical science, and their applications to clinical work now involve nearly all the organs of the human body. In particular, the ultrasonic methods display full effect on the subjects hitherto not easily examined by other methods including roentgenography. The ultrasonic diagnosis in wide use today consists of the so-called pulse-echo method in Mega-Hertz frequency range. The method is classified into A-mode and B-mode according to the features of visual presentation. The sectional patterns obtained in the B-mode presentation are called ultrasono-tomograms. |
