This project is a scoping review of SURGICEL®, a haemostatic agent commonly used in surgery to control haemorrhages. SURGICEL® and other Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose products have been used over the past 70 years in this manner, with SURGICEL® being used since its introduction by Johnson and Johnson in 1947. However, there are also studies dating back to the 1980s that report complications associated with this hemostatic product. For example, this includes the possibility of granuloma formation following its application during a craniotomy. With each successive decade, there have been many additional publications that have discussed complications associated with SURGICEL®. In this project, we are conducting an up-to-date scoping review which will identify and classify the heterogeneous available evidence, to identify and analyse knowledge gaps, to describe how current research methodology is being conducted and to document the known complications of SURGICEL®. |
