Fluid mechanics, in general, is important physically, particularly to engineering and technology. The transport of heat and mass, on the other hand, are fundamental features of fluid flows. As such, thermal-fluid-mass transfer processes are vital to several processes. In the discipline of energy, for example, thermal-fluid-mass processes are essential to addressing energy problems of conserving energy, enhancing energy efficiency and the overall energy crises. In this context, the basic modes of heat transfer are discussed. The discussion is later extended to fluid boundary layers, which continues to be useful in understanding the characteristics of fluid flow that are pivotal to reducing energy consumption and towards sustainable development of our planet. Areas of applications are discussed throughout particularly in heat exchangers. |
