Popis: The effect of blending sequence on the compatibilizing effect in a modified poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (MPPO) / poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) blend, when three kinds of poly(styrene-co-glycidyl methacrylate) (SGMA) containing 4 mole-% (SGMA4), 9 mole-% (SGMA9), and 13 mole-% (SGMA13) of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) repeating unit were used as compatibilizer, was studied by examining morphology, dynamic mechanical properties, rheological properties, and mechanical properties. In the blending sequence where PBT was blended with preblended MPPO/SGMA blend, the compatibilizing effect of SGMA4 was more evident than other SGMAs, whereas the compatibilizing effect of SGMA9 was most evident, when SGMA was preblended with PBT, before blending with MPPO. These results were somewhat different from our previous results that the compatibilizing effect of SGMA13 was most evident when PBT, MPPO, and SGMA were blended simultaneously. Simultaneously mixed blends had higher values of elongation at break and impact strength than those from other blending sequences. However, the blending sequence where MPPO was blended with preblended PBT/SGMA blend resulted in higher values of moduli.
