Popis: This is a review article in which the physical principles underlying the function of the organ flue pipe are considered. Many of the points are not understood, and attention is called to them as possible lines of investigation. A survey is made of the various theories of the action of the airstream at the mouth of the pipe; details are given of the variations in construction and their effect on the tone. Finally attention is paid to the tones of organ pipes in combination, and the conditions for a satisfactory musical effect are outlined.
