Background In particular, cancer patients with minor children encounter various problems, including family, parenting, employment, and economic burdens. This study aimed to examine the economic burden among cancer patients with minor children. Methods This was a sub-analysis of a cross-sectional web-based survey. Cancer patients with minor children were recruited from an online community and asked to answer a questionnaire.The proportion of subjects experiencing economic burden, and factors associated with economic burden were analyzed. Results A total of 368 subjects were eligible [19% male, mean age (SD): 43.0 years (5.8)]. The most common primary cancer site was breast (34%), followed by the colorectal region (12%), and gynecological organs (11%). Among the subjects, 127 (34%) experiencedeconomic burden. Univariate analyses showed that advanced stage (38% in subjects experiencing economic burden vs. 22% in subjects not experiencingeconomic burden, p = 0.002), presence of metastases (51% vs. 35%, p = 0.004), cancer recurrence (24% vs. 14%, p = 0.032), using anti-tumor drugs (47% vs. 33%, p = 0.010), having a full-time job (24% vs. 48%, p Conclusions The present study showed that advanced stage, anti-tumor treatment, and work situation were associated with economic burden among cancer patients with minor children.
