I provide an overview and evaluation of Wiggins' important text, focusing primarily on his treatment of what he considers to be the main systems of personality assessment (I do not cover the case study which comprises the second half of the book). In particular, I try to examine each system, which Wiggins' refers to as "paradigms" in allusion to Kuhn, based on the background assumptions of each system's proponents, and the apparent assumptions of Wiggins' himself. I end by expressing some doubts about Wiggins' scheme of engineering a possible convergence between the systems. |
