Popis: | The relationships between African American literature and American law are such that the textual body of each, taken broadly, can be read as the basis for an alternative text of the other. The law’s traces in African American cultural production allow us to see arenas of contradiction and interrogation in that literature that have been masked before. Similarly, African American legal imaginaries, the law as represented in the poetry, fiction, essays, and dramas of the African American literary corpus, is a parallel and contradictory history of American law. This essay, actually remarks at a conference, spells out some of these relationships and raises some questions of a methodology to manage them. |
