The equation relating molecular weight distribution of a polymer to the experimental function of concentration appearing in quilibrium sedimentation with the ultracentrifuge is nonsolvable because it is an improperly posed problem in the Hadamard sense. For a simple distribution this equation has been solved by applying a method fo regularization. To solve a nonsymmetrical bimodal and a trimodal distribution, the technique of regularization had to be incorporated into a linear programming. In the current work the regularization technique has been incorporated into quadratic programming. This new combined method proved to be more adequate to solve, also more complex distributions such as tri-, tetra-, and pentamodal. In addition, this technique is cheaper, because it requires less computer time than the regularization incorporated into linear programming. |
