A re‐analysis is given of the research about the influences of certain environmental factors on student achievement. The study indicates that educational process data seem to be helpful in building up ah explanatory model not only on the macro systems level, but also on the classroom interaction level. Seven promising characteristics of the approach are pointed out, the consequences of which broaden the paradigms and models of research on teaching.
