The angiographic appearance of a coronary artery narrowing is a poor predictor of stenosis severity. For this reason, functional parameters of stenosis severity such as fractional flow reserve, coronary flow velocity reserve and hyperemic stenosis resistance are obtained during heart catheterization. However, these parameters require maximal hyperemia, most commonly induced by adenosine. Since adenosine is often not available in catheterization laboratories, we aimed to establish whether contrast-induced reactive hyperemia allows the prediction of hyperemic stenosis resistance. |
