When the J/ψ and ψ’ were discovered in fall 1974 [1] we all witnessed a dramatic and beautiful revival of the quark model [2]. The predicted new quark flavour, c = charm [3] could be added to the hadron spectroscopy by the interpretation of the new particles as c c¯ bound states. It was argued that the new system is nonrelativistic: Charmonium [4]. Whereas the old mesons suffered from the fact that the quarks are extremely relativistic (mass differences are of the order of the masses themselves), in Charmonium the heavy (≈ 1.5 GeV) c-quarks should move relatively slowly, β2 = (v/c)2 ≈ 0.2. The well known powerful methods of exploring a nonrelativistic system could be used. This was the source of real excitement about the new particles.
