An evaluation of the time preserved as sediment is brought about in three 5th order (100 ka) depositional sequences from the ‘Miocene marine molasse’ of the Digne basin (Sisteron area). Fine analysis of facies (essentially tidal estuarine sediments) and available data about modern environments show that only a very short period of time is preserved as sediment (few hundred to few thousand years in each sequence). These first results show that the estuarine infilling is linked to quick deposit periods which have to be taken into account to understand modes of basin filling and compaction and diagenesis phenomena. |
