The mutual impacts between two adjacent tall buildings during past major earthquakes have caused significant damage. Researchers have examined the effectiveness of various seismic control devices for interconnecting two adjacent buildings for earthquake hazard mitigation. In this study, the effectiveness of MR damper is examined for seismic response mitigation of adjacent multistory buildings under coupled building control scheme, involving passive-off, passive-on and semiactive control strategies. Further, the influence of damper location and maximum command voltage, on control performance is also examined. Based on the results of the numerical study it has been observed that the MR damper is an effective device to control the response of both the buildings for a wide range of ground motion. |
