This paper deals with the loss evaluation of boost choppers in inverter systems, which are used in large capacity air conditioners. The basic principle of the previously proposed low-loss boost-chopper with super-junction MOSFET (SJ-MOSFET) is briefly introduced. Then, it is shown that the conduction loss can be reduced by synchronous rectification and the switching loss can also be decreased greatly. Loss analysis results of three boost choppers are experimentally compared with that of the previously proposed low-loss boost-chopper circuit. Experimental results demonstrate that the conduction loss of the upper arm circuit at light load condition can be reduced by 62 %, and switching loss of the lower arm circuit at the rated load condition can be reduced by 80 % as compared to conventional boost chopper with Si device. |
